quick question: can anyone tell me how bad traffic usually is on a weekday (Friday) morning, on 101S from the Mission down to South San Francisco?

(trying to estimate driving time to get from [livejournal.com profile] fyfer's to an MCAT test center at 6:30-7am. google maps claims it's ~8.5 miles, and 15 minutes.)

It's my experience that at 6:30 or so, pretty much everywhere is driveable - by 7:00 it's starting to get iffy.

cool, thanks. 511.org seems to think it'd be reasonable at that time of day. (and i figured out that 511 has average traffic data for different times of day. this is nifty.)

I don't know how things are south, but I used to be able to make it from the Sunset (almost next to the beach) to Van Ess in about 15 minutes in the morning. Traffic never got bad until around 7:30

Yeah. By 8 it's bad, sometimes 7:30 is still OK. If you leave at 6:30 you should with high probability have a clear ride. Probably worth planning an alternate route on 280 and looking at traffic 511.org before you leave, just in case.

I'd give it an hour.

i'll probably give it that long just in case, but...eep. i'll look for surface-street alternate routes, too.

I do that every morning: even at high rush hour, your worst case scenario is 30 minutes. At 0630, 15 minutes is entirely likely, and in the event of some horrible complete 101-blocking accident, you could do it on surface streets in 20-25.
