The War of Don Emmanuel's Nether Parts and Señor Vivo and the Coca Lord, Louis de Bernieres. intricate, funny novels set somewhere in South America; stories of people and villages and families, with a dash of santeria and magical-realism thrown in for good measure. and now i want to read everything else he's written, except that longueur just lent me two John McPhee books and something about pirates and scientists, so those will be next.
