i went by the Depot for Creative Reuse this afternoon with [livejournal.com profile] pumapreysize. meant to stop by and rifle through their fabric-pile quickly before going on to other fabric-shops...but:

the Depot has many boxes of tie silk swatches (maybe 6" x 12", or a little larger) for sale, cheap. (i got a 12"x12"x18" box mostly-full for $20.) they're being picked through pretty rapidly, but there's some neat stuff there.

...[livejournal.com profile] simplykimberly, [livejournal.com profile] snowninja7 -- could i maybe come hang out & use your sewing machine/serger sometime soon? ya see, i've got all this tie silk...

Absolutely! I even know where the power cord is for the serger! ;) I'm cleaning up my office tomorrow, though, in preparation for my brother-in-law arriving, um, tomorrow! So there's a good likelihood that I'll have the sewing machine power cord, too :)

*grin* there's some fair chance that i won't get around to sewing or even figuring out what i want to do with all this amazing bounty until the next craft-night...but i'll definitely be there.

it occurred to me today that i don't know if any of this has been washed, or whether washing might shrink/warp the fabric. the idea of trying to wash all of this before sewing it (without having all the pieces get horribly frayed at the edges) is daunting to say the least. any thoughts?

While driving around a certain part of atlanta in search of a free, advertiser-supported restaurant that serves only fresh bread, iced tea, and a trough full of butter and, as it turns out, doesn't exist, I stumbled upon a creative reuse place down here. I was fairly certain there was one (or more) somewhere around here, and now I've seen it.

such a restaurant doesn't exist? did it? it's an interesting idea, at least.

i'm glad to hear there's more creative-reuse going on in the world. i discovered the (probably) existence of another one in SF, too.
