i've been poking at the idea of writing in this journal for a long time, but hadn't done so (until now) for several reasons. uncertainty as to the purpose of it, privacy concerns, and not wanting to end up using it mainly as an outlet for angst, unhappiness, etc.

i'm still not certain of the purpose, but my current thought is some combination of writing-for-self plus the potential of lj as a means of some sort of communication.
as for privacy...most entries from here on will be locked to some degree or another, i think. if you'd like me to add you to a friends-list feel free to send a hello and ask.
and for the last...life's been pretty rough for the last long while, and a lot of what i'm doing now involves dealing with that. so my guess is that that mess and dealing won't stay entirely out of what i write here, but it's equally my intention to write about the good things, or just day-to-day sorts of things, and more general thinking.

eh, so. an experiment...now, to see how it goes.

HOLY SHIT-- A POST!

::hug:: I look forward to seeing how it goes. I'm not always pleased with the way my journal has gone-- more of the angsty crap than I'd really like, for instance. Eh.

ANyhow, I think above all it should be for you. I mean, there's really not much point to it otherwise, right? Unless one uses it for "communication" only-- I think it's a poor substitute in that regard. That's the other thing I sometimes feel mine is too full of. hrm. That's a big part of why I don't post much these days. On the other hand, every once in a while I post the cover of an album of Hustle variants...

Yikes... now I'm rambling on your journal! Eeep!

*nod* it is certainly for me, but i'm not sure how it'll be useful, yet. writing just to write i can do more easily in my own notebooks, or in letters...and the main difference here is that other people can read what i'm writing, and respond. dialogue and all that.
also, up until now i largely used livejournal as a way of keeping up with people that i wouldn't hear as much from otherwise...so theoretically other people could also keep up with me (to some degree) this way too. but that's more of a broadcast-communication than dialogue-communication; a different sort of usefulness.

hm. right. i'm rambling also. :) so...we'll see.

Yeah. Too often, I think, people lose sight of that, and seem to write in their LJs for everyone else. ::shrug:: to each their own, 'spose.

but that's more of a broadcast-communication than dialogue-communication; a different sort of usefulness.

::nod:: Sometimes people rely on ther broadcast capability to replace the dialogue, instead of supplenting it. That makes me a sad panda.

hm. right. i'm rambling also. :)

Aww.... Makes me miss rambling at each other in person!

sad panda? *smile* don't think i've heard that expression before.

i doubt the replacement of dialogue with broadcast is intentional, but...yeah. it does make it so that there's less actual connection. not good.

anyhow, i've been inside cleaning all day, and should get out and breathe some non-dustified air for a bit. whee..

Damned my damnable connection-- 2nd try:

Yeah, I spent all day yesterday packing and covered in dust. But today, I took the MSF Experienced Rider Course, so no dust for me! Just 80-90 degree heat...

nice. what sort of stuff does the Experienced Rider Course cover?
and...is there a Stunt Rider Course? ;)

It pretty much just covers bike control stuff. I'm ambivalent about it right now-- I can't say I learned a whole lot, but I'm more comfortable on the new bike.

And... no. MSF doesn't offer a stunt course. ::smile::

To expand upon this: It's mostly low-speed stuff, and mostly stuff that's covered in the first MSF course. And the Experienced Rider Course (ERC) didn't really move beyond it or cover it in more depth-- a lot of it felt like a review.

On the other hand, the course does focus more on the feel of what's happening in several of the exercises. That's definitely good, especially for people that don't keep that in mind in the first place.

So, I dunno-- it was a lot of stuff that I practice regularly anyway. But, more practice never hurts, especially when there's someone watching you and giving you coaching. So, I'd say it was worth the time and money.

*little smile* you should write more new-york stories, too.
