entirely gratuitous giddiness

i am posting from my gorgeous shiny NEW LAPTOP! yesterday i booted it up and immediately ran into bizarre network problems that made me bang my head on things and stomp around a bunch. no good. today i booted it up and everything is just fine. and so, so pretty. and the screen is so big. the hard drive is not full! wheeeee!

(i'm glad i went ahead and bought it, because when i went to the Berkeley campus computer store, they said the sale they'd been running was almost over. but not quite! so i came home with a 15" Powerbook G4. and a sexy black 30GB video iPod. and a 250GB external hard drive. *boggle* *giddymonkeydance* awwww yeah.)

later in the evening:
mmmm-hm. still liking this sweet little new machine of mine. no good ideas for names yet, and it occurred to me that my curvy black G3 doesn't have a name either. suggestions?

the sexy black ipod is now named "The Electric Mayhem." it seemed appropriate. *grin*

wow. s3xx4y hardware! :)

hell yeah. i've only really been playing with it tonight, and already the difference between this computer and my old one (curvy G3 pismo) is day & night.

*sigh* i've also managed to trip on the power cord and drop the ipod already. having a desk would be really useful right now. but the ipod is charging, and has a name. still waiting on a name for the G4...any suggestions?

i don't know what your naming schemes are, but since this involved happy monkey dancing i might suggest "monkey" :)

hee! monkey's such a general name, though, and i don't think the computer knows how to monkey-dance.

my current thought is "unsinkable affection" (or "unsinkable affection for the world"), from this Buttercup Festival strip.

that is an AWESOME comic strip. though i admit i come from a technological era in which hostnames of more than eight characters or so were considered a tad cumbersome :)

true...with this computer, though, i think it really doesn't matter. the default name seems to be "r****-*******'s-PowerBook58".

i'm still liking "unsinkable affection". :)

and yeah, Buttercup Festival rocks. i'm sad that it's ended, but glad that he's at least keeping the archives available.

Nice.

I'm all excited to be getting a used G3 iBook soon. :) You's a lucky girl.

the iBooks are pretty dern sweet, too.
i'm very happy with the new machine, and figure it should last me a good 6 years at least. :)

Given that you are the agent of entropy, I propose enthalpy as your machine name :)

hee! i like that one, but i've already renamed the shiny new laptop to 'unsinkable-affection'. i'll let 'enthalpy' sit around as a possible name for the curvy black G3...
