going one better (with pictures!)

a very quick note -- the weekend was very full, and i will hopefully have time to write down more of the goings-on and stories, but one bit of it was sitting down in the living room with [livejournal.com profile] tyratae and other-people-whose-ljnames-i-don't-know-yet and re-making Matilda's dashboard hula girl into...a goth dashboard hula girl.

words do not do justice, so here instead is a photograph:

zombie goth dashboard hula girl!

detail of face-decoration and ankh tattoo:

for comparison, this is roughly what the hula-girl looked like before redecoration:

Awesome. [Reminds me of my sport death My Little Ponies. Want one?]

sport. death. my little pony.

...WANT!

[identity profile] ubersturm.livejournal.com 2006-02-28 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe I should make a bunch of them and sell them on senior-house... "Limited Edition Sport Death My Little Pony! Featuring hand-dyed hair, demonic red eyes, and laboriously-painted skin! Get yours while supplies last!"

[I actually made a 15 foot tall version about a year and a half ago during Rush - it had wheels, and one could actually sit inside, making it more of a Trojan Pony. Sadly, there wasn't really anyplace to keep it, and it's long since gone.]

...damn. that kicks ass.
are there pictures?

[identity profile] ubersturm.livejournal.com 2006-02-28 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
Depressingly, I have no photos of the finished pony, or even the mostly-finished pony. These two are pictures of it being built [I think I'm fixing the head height in the second one.] However, fratboys stole it and broke it before we'd completely finished it - see here. As you can tell, we hadn't finished the mane and tail. We'd finished everything else though, and I can assure you that there weren't random broken 2x6s poking out. Nor were there big dents, or a missing ear.

*nod* i got the other photos of the finished pony. pretty damn cool. i'm impressed.

...and looking forward to my miniature one. *grin*

sport death My Little Ponies. Want one?

hell yeah. :)
if you send it to me down in Mississippi (between now and 4/16 or so), i'll put it on the dashboard with the hula girl.

[identity profile] ubersturm.livejournal.com 2006-02-28 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
Send me the address, man. I'm sure I'll have a free evening in the next month and a half to dedicate to such a worthy cause.

[identity profile] iridium.livejournal.com 2006-02-28 09:27 am (UTC)(link)
done. looking forward to it. my grandparents may be a bit skeptical, but i'm sure they can deal. :)

very nice.

reminds me that SOMEDAY i need to finish that *&^%$#@! goth angel tree-topper which i started oh like 4 years ago now...

[identity profile] iridium.livejournal.com 2006-02-28 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
sweet! well, you've got a little while 'til christmas trees are in season again ...

[identity profile] androidqueen.livejournal.com 2006-02-28 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
that is beautifully done. bravo.

[identity profile] iridium.livejournal.com 2006-02-28 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
thank you. *grin* it's been in the mental queue of random art projects for six months or a year now. going on the road is a good kick in the ass for doing lots of those sorts of things, as it turns out.

love! love love love. love. she turned out brilliantly. :)

thank you! and much credit to [livejournal.com profile] tyratae and A., who pitched in with many of the details that make it work so well.

*grin* i'm sorry i missed the construction process! it looks like it was probably quite entertaining.

[identity profile] iridium.livejournal.com 2006-03-03 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
it went pretty quickly, with three pairs of hands all working on it at once. and yeah, it was a lot of fun. :)

GAWD, that's fabulous! As J put it when I showed it to him: "sounds like a cottage industry in the budding."

My sister has a hula-boy on her dashboard who looks for all the world like a Bitter Queen (as in an unhappy homosexual man; likely closeted). I wish I could capitalize on that.

[identity profile] iridium.livejournal.com 2006-03-03 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
hee! thank you.

sadly the goth girl isn't travelling with me anymore -- hopefully she'll find someone else to amuse and travel with, and i'm keeping an eye out for something else appropriate. (also, now i have all kinds of ideas for other hula-girl redecoration, so something will work out... :)

Very cool!

[identity profile] iridium.livejournal.com 2006-03-03 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
thank you! sadly, i've lost her already, but hopefully she'll make someone else's life a little more strange.

[identity profile] violin.livejournal.com 2006-03-01 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
Very nicely done!!

Have a good trip!

[identity profile] iridium.livejournal.com 2006-03-03 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
thank you!
losing the gothgirl was a rough bit of beginning, but also a good reminder and lesson in letting go...and i'm doing a lot of that just now, so it makes sense.

in any case, so far the trip's been fabulous. driving Matilda on the highways, especially the twisty old freeways of LA and the coast highway...it makes me grin like a maniac. life is good.
