very quick update

in DC (rather, Chevy Chase, Maryland, with [livejournal.com profile] desultor) now, heading out for an oil change, coffee with Todd & Jenn, and New York City very soon. should be in NYC tonight and part of tomorrow, most likely heading to Boston tomorrow afternoon. (there's some chance we'll stay in NYC through Tuesday morning, but the plan is to head out on Monday.)

new engine is doing ok so far. i've lost another hubcap, which means i'm down to one, which i'm going to pull off and stick in the wayback so it doesn't fall off too. any suggestions for hubcap sources near Boston? i'd prefer similar ones, from an old Ford or Caddilac, but anything with style that suits Matilda is fine.

There used to be a hubcap place near the South Bay shopping center in Dorchester, next to a used tire place just off I-93. Will try to recall the name.
Might be another on Columbus Ave towards Franklin Park, but it's been a while since I've been by there.

i ended up finding hubcaps at a used-parts shop called Nissenbaum's, somewhere near Union Square. good place.

also finally got to meet [livejournal.com profile] ceelove and the little one, the other day. :)

yay robin visits!

[identity profile] iridium.livejournal.com 2006-05-10 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
*laugh* indeed. i'm glad i got to see you a bit while i was in New York. trying to visit with people during Roast doesn't usually work all that well.

wait, todd & jenn who? not my todd & jenn???

that's what i thought she said. and the worlds come crashing down. wish i'd seen this in time to get a "say hi for me!" in before the scampering off to coffee...

i love shrinking world syndrome.

*grin* [livejournal.com profile] nacht_musik sent me a quick txt to remind me that you knew them, so i did, and Todd got all boggley and made funny faces. it was great.

also, i'm headed to Syracuse on Friday or Saturday. haven't talked yet to the person there i think i'm staying with...as usual, it's all flying-by-the-seat-of-my-pants. but you should send me your phone number, so i can catch up with you there!

How long do you think you'll be in Boston? I might be back late on the 7th or mid-day on the 8th.. Unless I wind up going to Illinois to hang out with Bean.

[identity profile] iridium.livejournal.com 2006-05-10 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
i'm still in Boston, but it's been a somewhat-weird visit, not terribly social. are you in Illinois? i didn't see Bean at Roast...

[identity profile] warlord-mit.livejournal.com 2006-05-10 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I didn't go. Never got ahold of Bean. So I'm in Boston.
We should cross paths. :)
You can email me or call me...

stupid question but... do i know desultor? it seems that a lot of people i know are on her friends list. But i have no idea who that is from the name...

i was driving through chevy chase today and i am still in shock at how huge so many of the houses are down there. is the entire dc area filled with lottery winners?

[identity profile] desultor.livejournal.com 2006-05-02 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
desultor = elerrina. :) hi.

chevy chase is certainly a nice area, though there's been this rash recently of "mansionization", where builders go around getting people to become dissatisfied with their current reasonably sized houses, and making them build huge ones that are monstrous. we are the next door neighbor of one of these huge houses, and it's pretty effing obnoxious.

i wish we were lottery winners though!

[identity profile] jnbm.livejournal.com 2006-05-02 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh hey!

about the houses, i'm teasing. I live in columbia right now and its a similar situation.

I think a lot of people must be house poor up here since its mostly engineers, which are paid pretty well but i can't imagine so well that a mortgage on a million dollar house isn't hard to pay to say the least. They just started some development across from the lab that says "starting in the low 800s!." what a deal.

[identity profile] desultor.livejournal.com 2006-05-02 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
hey :)

oh, i know you're teasing, but i'm not really kidding. there is, in fact, that builder/s going around making people make their houses really large. it's such a problem that the town of chevy chase has declared a moratorium on all new building (or maybe just new "mansions"). grr.

anyway, columbia, cool. you gonna be here for roast?

[identity profile] jnbm.livejournal.com 2006-05-04 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Columbia and cool. not exactly a combination of words normally seen together. Even though i'm about halfway between dc and baltimore i seem to spend way more time in dc. I dont ever go clubbing (though when i lived right by the bethesda metro station i did a couple ti mes with my roomate) but i like being able to ride my bike into the city along some of those paved trails and then check out the art museums etc. Do you go to arborteum much? i love that place, and its surprisingly not crowded.

No roast for me. Its the last week of school (then i'm all done with my masters! w00t). Maybe next year i'll go, if i'm not living in a tent in alaska by then.

[identity profile] iridium.livejournal.com 2006-05-10 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
heya! sorry i didn't manage to catch up with you on my way through DC. the east-coast drive was a bit of a rush.

congrats on getting done with your masters, and maybe i'll see you next year at Roast. (or perhaps in Alaska.)
