very quick update
in DC (rather, Chevy Chase, Maryland, with
desultor) now, heading out for an oil change, coffee with Todd & Jenn, and New York City very soon. should be in NYC tonight and part of tomorrow, most likely heading to Boston tomorrow afternoon. (there's some chance we'll stay in NYC through Tuesday morning, but the plan is to head out on Monday.)
new engine is doing ok so far. i've lost another hubcap, which means i'm down to one, which i'm going to pull off and stick in the wayback so it doesn't fall off too. any suggestions for hubcap sources near Boston? i'd prefer similar ones, from an old Ford or Caddilac, but anything with style that suits Matilda is fine.

i was driving through chevy chase today and i am still in shock at how huge so many of the houses are down there. is the entire dc area filled with lottery winners?

chevy chase is certainly a nice area, though there's been this rash recently of "mansionization", where builders go around getting people to become dissatisfied with their current reasonably sized houses, and making them build huge ones that are monstrous. we are the next door neighbor of one of these huge houses, and it's pretty effing obnoxious.
i wish we were lottery winners though!

about the houses, i'm teasing. I live in columbia right now and its a similar situation.
I think a lot of people must be house poor up here since its mostly engineers, which are paid pretty well but i can't imagine so well that a mortgage on a million dollar house isn't hard to pay to say the least. They just started some development across from the lab that says "starting in the low 800s!." what a deal.

oh, i know you're teasing, but i'm not really kidding. there is, in fact, that builder/s going around making people make their houses really large. it's such a problem that the town of chevy chase has declared a moratorium on all new building (or maybe just new "mansions"). grr.
anyway, columbia, cool. you gonna be here for roast?

No roast for me. Its the last week of school (then i'm all done with my masters! w00t). Maybe next year i'll go, if i'm not living in a tent in alaska by then.

congrats on getting done with your masters, and maybe i'll see you next year at Roast. (or perhaps in Alaska.)
