1. you know what's really nice about having a big tall gas heater in my living room? i can turn it on and sit right next to it, and it's kinda like being in a sauna. now i am toasty toasty warm. (can you tell i'm not excited about this whole 'winter' thing?)

2. went to the gym today and worked out for an hour or so with [livejournal.com profile] fyfer. i'd been telling myself that two weeks off wouldn't make that much difference, but it did. i got tired fast and couldn't do as much weight. but still: 30 assisted pull-ups, 10 assisted dips, lots of reps on the hip adductor and abductor machines, lots of ab-machine reps, 30 reps on the machine where you push upwards so as to work on delts and triceps, lots of low-weight lat-pulldown reps. also, stretching. stretching is good. if i could convince myself to do the exercise bikes, or just to ride my actual bike, that would be even better.

3. because i am Very Clever, i left the gym and took the bus straight to the grocery store. and bought lots of heavy food. very heavy food. (well, and drink. the gallon of soymilk and half-gallon of applejuice and heavy glass bottle of cognac counted for quite a bit of weight.) very heavy food which i then (because i'm clever) had to carry all the way home. down the hill and up the hill and down the hill and up the hill again. ouch. *sigh*

4. but also, i remembered to go vote today. *grumble* ridiculous special election *grumble*. for the interested, live election results are here. the maps (on the results page) are also interesting.

5. i'm planning on going to Writers with Drinks this Saturday, and will hopefully manage to get there less than two hours late this time. y'all should come.

6. it's been too long since i made time for doing creative things. i am declaring this Sunday to be Chill Downtime And Art Day. anybody want to come hang out and make stuff?

At beckham's several weeks ago a bunch of us got together to play copious amounts of monkeyball. You have to understand the absolutely insane way these guys play monkeyball to really understand what that entails. At any rate, beckham treated us to a little cognac. I'd never had any before. It was interesting. Started off painful, then butttery delicious, and then one last parting jab of pain.

After I finished my little bit of cognac-- I took my time-- there was a white russian made with vanilla vodka. being that this was a friday evening, I ended up very very tired. And I woke to what I thought was some guy's hand in my crotch, but turned out to just be a rubber chicken.

Good times.

what's monkeyball?

i'm not a huge fan of cognac by itself, but vanilla cognac with Tasty Hot Beverages works very well.

... ... huh.
well, probably better that it was a rubber chicken.
*laugh*

Yeah, when you were talking about the cognac in the hot chocolate at burning man, it sounded quite good. Cognac by itself certainly isn't anything I'm likely to drink often or in any meaningful quantity. But it had its charms.

I was quite relieved that it wasa rubber chicken and not a hand. This relief was little reduced by learning that just minutes before I woke up they took a picture of me kissing the chicken.

exactly. and i'm especially fond of this vanilla cognac i keep finding on sale at the grocery store. it's got a panther or something on the bottle, too.

...oh. *wince* ouch.

30 accumulated reps, correct? If you can do 30 reps in a set, you should greatly increase the load, as it's not doing any good. A range of 10-15 reps is good for endurance/tone focus with strength, 6-12 for strength focus with endurance.

yeah, mostly it's 3 sets of 10, or 2 of 15. i do need to push myself to increase the weight more steadily (and it would help a lot to go more than once a week)...i do much better about that when i'm not going alone, and especially if i work out with someone who'll poke me a bit.

I'd still advise training each body part once a week and splitting them up, or whole body work twice a week. Yeah, parters help a lot, though I mix my works up so much I just go it alone.

*nod* if i managed to get into the habit of doing whole body work twice a week, that'd be great. but...it hasn't happened yet. :/
